License Procedure (updated 08/19/2026) Applicants for the initial (first-time) License To CarryMust complete a four to six hour classroom training, pass a written examination and a DPS Shooting Proficiency Course. On-Line courses consist of the same classroom requirements, however the shooting proficiency portion will need to be conducted in person (with a qualified LTC instructor). A 1-2 hour safety class is required prior to shooting.
